Sunday Suppers
Every Sunday
4:00pm-5:30pm
Halifax United Coburg Road
(formerly Saint Andrew's United Church)
Sunday Suppers provides a hot meal and basic needs support every Sunday from 4pm-5:30pm for 300+ people of all ages who are experiencing food scarcity. All are welcome. We build community with marginalized folks in a way that communicates value, worth, and dignity.
We offer a hybrid model, welcoming guests into our space for a sit-down supper and time with community, as well as offering takeaway meals for those who do not wish to come inside.
Sunday Suppers is fully volunteer led and run; for the community, by the community. All volunteers are welcome to join us. Youth (16 and under) are also welcome with an adult. Please arrive at the Edward Street door by 3:15pm to get started. If you would like to volunteer with a group (5+ people), please email us beforehand at sundaysuppers85@gmail.com.
Each week at least 20 large casseroles are made by our partner organizations. If you have a group that would like to be added to the schedule, or are willing to be called upon when we are short on casseroles, please email us. Baked goods and fresh fruit are welcome any Sunday before 4:30pm. Financial donations are also important so we can purchase needed supplies and supplement food items.
Sunday Breakfasts
Every Sunday
8:00am-9:00am (doors open at 7:30am)
Halifax United Barrington Street
(formerly St. Matthew's United Church)
St. Matthew’s congregation has been serving a free breakfast on Sunday mornings since the early 1990s to all who are in need, including those who are homeless, transient, living sheltered, or struggling to get by. Five breakfast teams operate in rotation and include both congregation members and friends.
Teams are often looking for new volunteers who are interested in serving the wider community in this way.
If you are interested in joining a Breakfast Team or in the program generally, please email stmatts@ns.sympatico.ca.
